Big Sioux Brew

Client: Friends of the Big Sioux River, Remedy Brewing Company

Each year Friends of the Big Sioux River (FBSR) and Remedy Brewing Company join forces to release a limited edition beer for Earth Day dubbed the Big Sioux Brew. Not only was 2023 the first year the beer was released in 12oz cans and available in local stores, I also had the honor of designing the label!

What sets this beer apart is the fact that it is made with 2,000 gallons of water from the Big Sioux River. Starting in February, crews headed on to the frozen river and began collecting water to later process via reverse osmosis (see the process shared on FBSR's instagram*!). From there, the purified water was used to brew the brew of the year: German Pilsner. From start to finish, the whole process aims to help people realize the importance of caring for their local waterways.

You can read more about the Big Sioux Brew and it's goals on FBSR'S website.

*Fun fact: if you clicked on the link to the Instagram post, you might have noticed the first picture showed a pink variation of the label. That was the initial design! When first creating options, we ended up with a handful of colors for this particular design and narrowed it down to two: pink and blue. While pink made it onto the initial graphic, ultimately it was thought the blue would have better shelf value and was switched in before mass production.
